The Role

The Product Design Draftsperson will play a crucial role in translating product design concepts into detailed technical drawings and drafts, contributing to developing innovative products. Working within the New Product Development team from initial concepts to final production, you will focus on the introduction of new products into the production line. Results-oriented, self-disciplined and proactive, you'll drive the creation and refinement of innovative solutions that uphold the high standards synonymous with the brand.

  • Utilise CAD software to create precise technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams based on product design concepts
  • Collaborate closely with product designers and engineers to understand design requirements and ensure feasibility
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to accurately define product features
  • Understand and calculate stack-up analysis of systems and sub-systems generating appropriate tolerances
  • Utilise probability and statistics to analyse data and make informed decisions during the design process
  • Conduct thorough reviews and revisions of drafts to incorporate feedback and maintain accuracy
  • BOM and PDM management
  • Execute minor 3D CAD model updates
  • Participate in design reviews and meetings to provide insights and recommendations for improvement
  • Maintain organised documentation of design iterations, revisions, and specifications
  • Collaborate with Quality Control (QC) and metrology teams to ensure that designs meet quality standards and specifications
  • Experience with metrology tools and measurement systems and techniques
  • Experience with creating technical documentation including Inspection Reports
  • Support Cross-Functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept to production
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, tools, and trends in product design and drafting

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, TAFE or equivalent in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or related field
  • Extensive experience as a drafts person, preferably in product design or a related field
  • Good written skills and capable of writing technical reports
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, OnShape, or similar tools
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with Quality Control (QC) processes and metrology techniques
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in drafting technical drawings
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work across interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A portfolio showcasing previous design drafts, projects, or relevant work samples is desirable
